Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities

Keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby. Sometimes things happen, be prepared

Safety glasses and cotton clothing are recommended

Never point or throw fireworks at another person or animal

Never place a part of your body directly over a firework device while lighting it

Always place your fireworks on hard level ground and watch what is above you. Avoid trees and powerlines

Make sure and brace/block your firework so it doesn’t tip over. Use cinder blocks/bricks to brace the fireworks. Block cakes on the flat side of the cake.

Use a bucket of sand to hold roman candles and stick rockets. It is not recommended to ever hold a firework in your hand other than a sparkler

Read all instructions and warning labels on the device thoroughly.

Remember these are explosives and can be dangerous. Make sure the fuse is fully unwrapped and light the end of the fuse. This should give you 5-7 seconds before it goes off. Back away to a safe distance after lighting a firework and make sure all spectators are a safe distance away.

Sometimes there will be ‘dud’ fireworks. Never try to relight a firework that doesn’t light. Soak it with water and throw away

Avoid alcohol consumption while lighting fireworks

Clean up after yourself. Douse used fireworks with water BEFORE throwing them in the trash.

Be respectful of others. Some people and pets are afraid of fireworks.
